#1 In The Hood G

Happy Sunday! And yes, I realized I missed a Sunday in there without a post. My apologies, but I had a lot going on last weekend. I’ve had so much backed up and purchased that I felt the need to throw three looks into this one. Please excuse the fact that they’re all blue, but realize that two of the three do come in a multitude of colors. Let’s hit it.

The Hood Collage

Okay, so maybe it’s 100% obvious that I didn’t shoot these in any place that would be considered the hood. I went seaside with these because two of my looks have dock shoes and those would probably look a bit awkward in a “hood” setting. All three of these hoodies are on the new-ish side and they all have different personalities that I felt when I put each of them on. Thus, let’s get into those personalities now.

Skywalker

Alright ladies and gentlemens… I’m back in it to win it. Even though I really have no idea what I’m going to win. Maybe there’s a double secret probation prize!!! Oh yeah I shamelessly stole Plurk icon because WordPress doesn’t have anything like it. Don’t judge me with your judging eyes. My latest look:

Skywalker Collage

So, to be honest, I had put this look together completely differently and taken shots… and then realized that one of the items was a 50L Friday item and the other was an exclusive LeLutka gift that is no longer in their update group notices any more. I always hate when I go through my entire look at the end of my writings here and find out that things are no longer available. With this somewhat simple look I do actually some things to talk about. Those things would be the jacket, jeans, and the kicks, so let’s get into it.

The first thing I’ll talk about is the XY jacket from LeLutka. As I mentioned before, it came out in blue as a gift from the LeLutka group. I actually had no idea this jacket even had come out because notices have been being funky in SL. I saw the jacket on Shop with Takeshi & Friends and then went to check the notice history on my LeLutka group. Now, I check the notice history on all of my groups occasionally just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. But I totally digress, the main thing I really like about this jacket are the rivets. If you’re into the femme fashion, you’ve seen them on the shoulders on a lot of lady’s jackets lately. I love how they snagged that concept, but made it very manly on this jacket. Also, the hood on the jacket is cool and almost unexpectedly found back there when you look at it from the front.

The next thing I wanted to talk about here are the jeans and belt, which are shamelessly stolen (noticing a pattern here?) from a full outfit that Jamie Holmer put together over @ Indi Designs called Frasier. I threw them into this look because I really liked the belt + jeans combo she had and it just felt right in this look. The belt has a great rounded buckle and that’s not something that you see in a lot of belts in-world these days. Although, I should say that’s not what I’ve seen in my limited belt collection as I don’t really wear very many belts in-world. The well-crafted, rolled-up cuffs were definitely something I thought was cool in these jeans… (as well as how good the back pockets accentuate my assets).

The final thing I wanted to talk about in this look are the shoes! Omg the shoes! When 2Real Okelli dropped these shoes on me, I dropped the box onto the ground and threw them on immediately. My initial thoughts were, “Awesome! I swear these remind me of something. Oh! The Star Wars Adidas shoes!” For reference if you want to see all of the Adidas Star Wars kicks, they’re here. These shoes come with your standard HUD color changer, as almost all of 2Real’s shoes do, and also with the custom textures as well, so I went to town and got them to line up with this look. I love shoes that I can adjust to fit whatever I’m wearing.

Alright that’s all I’ve got for this post. I’ll have some new posts coming up soon, once I can get some pictures put together to get out to you guys, which you can translate into, “Yeah the next post is going to be a while from now.” I may do a mini-RL menswear S/S10 post because I really just haven’t had the time to go through all of the images. We shall see and I make no promises, but if you really want something just remind me or get on me about it and I’ll throw something out there. Peace!

Duality

Alright, I’ve done this before and I’m bringing it back again. I’ve got two looks today that are on opposite sides of the spectrum. The first look I have for you is one that I’ve been mulling over since I saw a pretty big fashion show that COCO was in. Then Bronson Twine made a post that pushed me over the edge to really go check this out. I know I say it a lot, but this designer really knows her color.

Duality - Chill

Everything cocoro Lemon puts out has really vibrant and welcoming color. The intention of her designs are for the female persuasion, but there are a select few things that can be taken as unisex. Definitely the wrap-around-waist shirts can be worn as a great accessory and the over-the-shoulder sweaters can be added to a nice preppy look. Personally, I went for this fantastic blue and white striped shirt. I went for it because it reminds me of an American Eagle shirt that I bought when I worked there. It’s still in my closet somewhere…or in the basement because it’s a laundry weekend. Anyway, I think Bronson’s and my post here should be used as batman symbols on the sky for COCO to start thinking about guys. 😉

Duality - Work

Speaking of work before, my second look actually follows along those same lines, but not in the same direction. There’s a girl that works in my office who definitely knows her fashion and is on top of her fashion game. Earlier this week she had a black & red lumberjack shirt, black skinny jeans, and some calf-height boots on that the jeans tucked into. I decided to take that look, put some male perspective on it, and present it to you guys. The black & red checked shirt was actually the first thing that sparked up memory. I was searching down a shirt I saw on Naith Smit in one of his Flickr shots a couple of weeks ago. I found out that it was from sey, but when I got to it I wasn’t sure if I really had a look that could go with any of the colors that sey provided. Then, I saw my coworker and it lit right up in my head how I could incorporate it with some of my regular clothing. By regular I mean some of the designers and items that I tend to use a lot on here. I’m a creature of habit and when I find things that I really like or are perfect for me, you’ll see them a lot on here.

For those of you readers in the USA, enjoy the long weekend! I know I will because I’m taking an extra day on Tuesday. 😉 Oh! And a head’s up for you guys & gals reading this. I’ll probably have all of the images gathered for a round-up of F/W09 by the end of next week. I’ll drop all of that on you guys some time in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Olio

37 Across – Hodgepodge – 4 letters :: Answer = Olio. Are there any crossword people in the house? Well it leads into my post that I’ve got for today. I have a LOT of things that have just been sitting in my inventory that I always intended to blog, but just never got around to because RL has been pumping on all cylinders, especially with summer on the horizon and the brutal winter we had here in the Midwest. Thus, when I’ve been getting the chance, I’ve been popping off some quick shots of stuff that I’d like to blog. Now to remember what exactly I’m wearing…

Olio

Alright we’ll work the top row first here and left to right. In the upper right we have a look that’s mainly IZUMIYA fashion set number 8. I know, again more black and white from me with IZUMIYA, but I like it. I like the use of the prim top to the skirt layer. I don’t think I’ve seen that anywhere else and especially for a male av it works because we’re a wider bunch than our female counterparts. The skirt layer will keep to your form so your legs aren’t always poking through it with your AO and the prim part covers up the need to futz with the poof of the skirt that always seems to mess with my lower back. Granted you get all of this innovation for the low price of L$25…seriously. Another piece I need to talk about here are the shoes. The Sk8Sneaks from ZHAO are pretty awesome. This is actually a creation of Lissa Maertens of Cattiva e Cattivo. I was talking to her the other day and she had told me that she was starting to create shoes under the Zhao brand. Personally, I think this is a great addition to the Zhao brand because Zhao has mainly wrapped their brand around the female shoe. Bringing in somebody like Lissa that has successfully created some great male shoes really helps them. I’d love to see it make Zhao a staple in the male shoe arena or at the very least shake some things up. The style I chose for this look is the white zebra ones, but there are a lot of different colors and styles to choose from.

The next two down the line to the right we have a couple of main pieces that I’d like to talk about from Laqroki. Both pieces surround the color blue (go figure) and the first is the Eagle jacket in blue. I can’t really pinpoint what exactly makes me love this jacket so much. I think it’s probably the great hue of blue that they used in it and the subtle striping that looks like shading until you get in close. You know, I notice that Laqroki really uses a lot of gray scale tones in their clothing, but they really need to throw some color in there. Usually when they throw in color they get it right and I seem to always end up feeling like I want another color but it’s not there. The other thing I wanted to speak on in this look is the hair. UncleWeb Studios has been open for…maybe two weeks and Din has already released another new hair. The latest to be released is this Jin02.03 hair. I really like a lot of the new hairs from UncleWeb and the new textures are fantastic as well. Although I will admit that there is one thing that I don’t like. The mesh black hair textures are a little inconsistent. In some of the hairs they’re really noticeable and in others they’re much more subtle. I prefer the subtle, but it does make for somewhat of a guessing game as to what you’re going to get. Anyway, I like this hair here and this is the 03 style in black. It has some structure to it and then some playfulness to it as well. Jin 02.03 gets a thumbs-up from me.

The other Laqroki one that I threw in here in the upper right is the white blazer. This version of the blazer comes with a light blue undershirt and it just felt so nice a light for spring that I had to get it. I picked up a nice little 3-pack of the blazers without the shirts underneath as well because I like to mix & match shirts underneath.

Moving to the bottom row we have a store that I picked up on from a Japanese blog that’s in my blogroll over there >>>>>>>> It’s a blog by Cary Kiarx and the store is called NWYD. I picked up three of these shirts, but the one I really wanted to blog was this red one. I mean if you look at the images placed up there by Cary, you see all of the sweaters over shirts hanging up on the wall and this red one practically jumps off of the wall and says, “BUY ME! BUY ME!” I listened to its Sirens call, bought it, and couldn’t have been happier with my purchase. When you buy this shirt you get regular sculpted cuffs without the button-up shirt cuff showing up underneath and then a version of the cuff with the button-up shirt cuff showing. I really like how they worked out the cuff showing through the prims.

Next up we’ve got something that’s pretty cool. Although the tie and shirt are sold separately they still mesh together really well. Essentially the tie is sort of an add-on to the shirt. You can get this shirt with the regular collar and then for an added L$80 you can purchase the collar + tie combo. What’s really nice about it is that you can wear the tie with any of the plethora of colors that Schadenfreude provides this Oxford shirt in. The ties come with a HUD with which you can change the color of the collar to any of the collar to any of the colors of the shirt. Thus, no matter what color of shirt you want to buy, you can customize your tie to fit it. Again on this look, I tossed the Sk8Sneaks from Zhao in blue zebra onto here. As I mentioned before, I like the subtle mesh black from UncleWeb Studios and this free style up on the counter in the store called Reed in mesh black is perfection. Also in this look we have taped Buddy glasses from Artilleri. Artilleri has been coming out strong with some new releases for men. They’ve been covered so much that I’ve held myself back from overloading you with them, but I do really like these Buddy glasses. They’re very geek chic and come in a plain version along with this extra geek taped version.

The last look I have for you is actually the oldest one that I’ve had sitting in my inventory. It is the Argrace With You sweater + scarf. I love the softness of the texture on the scarves and richness of the color in them. I had to do a bit of futzing with the size of the scarf to fit around the prim neck piece (they don’t come connected together), but it was well worth it for a sweater of this quality. The prim neck and sweater come on where they’re connected to different points of the body. This allows for ease of leaving the scarf on or taking the scarf off. The main thing I like about this again comes down to the color. I like the deep olive color on this sweater and the half-rolled sleeves. It feels very everyday and almost mountain man. I really dig that about this.

That wraps up my olio o’ looks here. Please note the new page to my blog called the Creators Glossary. It covers all of the stores that I use in my blog. I’ll continue to provide slurls in my posts, but that’s more of a log of the history of places that I’ve covered in blog and what I covered or like best about the stores. The only letters not covered in there are Q and X. If you know of any menswear stores that begin with Q or X…let me know and I’ll check ’em out. 🙂 Here’s the laundry list of items with extra starch:

Just Because

You know when you slave away putting together an outfit and then two days later put together something that you like a whole lot better than what you had on before, but it’s along the same lines? That’s about how I came in to this one. It started with new jeans from Zaara that lead me to this shirt (they’re setup in the same display). I really like this shirt because it’s really simple and reminds me of a shirt I have from American Eagle irl. This version of the shirt is semi-sheer. You can only see how sheer the fabric is if you go all the way up the original size of the picture I took. There you’ll be able to see the light swirls of the tattoo I’m wearing underneath. Moving on down we have the Ripped Cream dark blue jeans from Valiant. Simply stated by one of my oldest and best friends in SL, “I have to say Valiant has the best jeans in all of SL.” And trust me that friend knows their denim *cough* 100+ RL pair *cough cough*. I love the color in these jeans and they go great with just about any white shirt you throw at them. Up to the mop is a hair that I’ve debated buying for a while, but finally caved in after I tried on the demo again. It’s Hoke Troika from Gritty Kitty. It walks the fine line of messy and too messy. I think the glasses really hold this look together. For a second time in a row I’m using the Nash glasses from Solar Designer Eyewear with the frames locked on a shiny blue. They just about the coolest and most versatile glasses you have to geek chic up your looks a lil’ bit. Also jazzing up this look I have one of the bottle cap necklaces from Gritty Kitty. I have all of them, but I do have to say that the Blatz Milwaukee cap is nearest and dearest to my heart for reasons known to many. I wanted to buy a condo in the Blatz Building here, but never pulled the trigger on it.

Just Because Collage

Shooting all the way down we get the Hoorenbeek shoes that I mentioned in my last post. These shoes come in a plethora of colors. I really like these shoes because they’re all casual and cool. I especially like the little branding detail on the back of the shoe. You can’t see it in the shot below, but if you go up to original on my main picture and look at the 2nd shot where I’m turned around backwards you can see it. This shot below is actually based off of a Ralph Lauren ad that I saw in W Magazine. Theirs was for winter crocodile-patterned heels, but mine is a spring sneaker release and thus why I put it on a nice green moss. 😉 Hope you enjoy it!

McEnroe

Ladies and gents…this started a while ago, a long while ago to be exact. It was around the time of the Shoe Expo back in July and I had just been turned on to a hair from Gritty Kitty by one Iustinian Tomsen. In my shopping for the aforementioned hair I came across another hair at Gritty Kitty that I just could not pass. After promptly slapping the new wig up top my head it hit me. I’m going to toss together a John McEnroe/80s tennis pro look. Thus, I went to the Shoe Expo dressed up in my John McEnroe outfit. I’ve thought about doing the John McEnroe look before, but my problem was that I didn’t have the items to do it. The original John McEnroe look had mini boxers from a, now long gone, discount Naughty Designs store and the socks came from Last Call’s “Right Said” outfit. Well, not too long before I ventured into the RL fashion arena I got a review package from one Dice Beattie of “Roll the Dice”. He gave me some gym shorts and it reignited my McEnroe outfit like you wouldn’t believe. The Australian Open (it’s one of the four tournaments in the “grand slam” of tennis) finishes up tomorrow with Roger Federer vs. Rafa Nadal and I just couldn’t let that pass before I got into this. Without further ado, I give you the McEnroe story…

McEnroe Storyboard #1

Eying up his opponent’s position on the court he mentally spins the wheel that holds his arsenal of serves and stops it like a well informed game of Russian roulette. He bounces the tennis ball up to his hands twice before it releases off of his fingertips up toward the sunny sky. Uncorking like a gun’s hammer he sends the ball screaming off the top of the net and out with judges calling out "LET!" and "FAULT!" He lets out a half smile as if he knew that ball was going to rub the outside service line clear off of the court. The Russian roulette begins again, but this time lands in a much safer spot as this is the second serve for match point. Two bounces and the ball is back up into the air. He slams through the ball with a much lighter top spin than the first serve to ensure it makes it over the net clean. Using the momentum of the serve he takes a couple of steps into the court before his eyes widen as his opponent sets up his body to slide in a drop shot toward the center of the court hoping to catch him off guard. With a flick of the wrist the ball lofts with the back spin and he begins to approach the net to make sure he sets himself up in excellent position after his next shot. He slightly puts too much on his returning drop shot and leaves his opponent with the advantage he was after. A light mental cursing about his short game aside, his opponent lobs a shot over his head to the back corner. Thankfully quickness needs no practice and he runs down the lob as it bounces quite high.

McEnroe Storyboard #2

Reaching back to release the hammer again, he follows through with all of his force and a light grunt with all of the raw force that he threw into that ball. The yellow fuzz holds on for dear life as it flies down the line from the forehand, and his surprised opponent reels to get to the corner. Fortunately, his opponent left his quickness at home today because he barely gets to the ball and flails his arm out laying up a bunny for him to simply put away and finish this match. Jumping up into the air to finish this match in style, the ball sails a little wider than he would have liked but it’s definitely going to stay in. As it hits he turns to the crowd and the cyclops (line judge) yells, “OUT!” He turns with fury in his eyes and screams at the umpire, “THAT WAS IN! ARE YOUR JUDGES FREAKING BLIND!? HOW COULD THEY NOT SEE THAT WAS IN!?” In a childish fit he throws his racket clear across the court and then punts the bended frame back over toward his bag. Reaching into his bag, he picks out another racket and continues on his quest to finish his opponent. He thinks to himself, “If you thought the first serve was fast, just wait until I unleash the rage into this serve….”

A Touch of Grey

I know I know I know…it’s been a while. I count the Style Guy article as one though. Alright so here’s what I have working on this one. Okay, so why I’m here. I recently came across some new hat + hairs from Gritty Kitty called Barista and Comrad. Comrad is a military hat that has 16 different textures in it with shaggy hair that falls over the eyes, but what I’m actually tossing your direction in this is the Barista. The Barista is a fedora hat with long hair that’s tied up in back. It’s perfect to keep it sanitary behind the counter or, in this case, cooler on the neck for the night on the town. Although when you’re out and about there’s bound to be someone smoking but, it’s time to kick the habit for Christmas. Thus, it’s the candy cane for me, but just in case you have to have the emergency pack if the itch gets overbearing… Finishing out this outfit we’ve got a Hoorenbeek suede jacket in dark grey (the cigarettes come with the jacket), an excellent pair of slacks that I stumbled over a while ago from idiots!, and the classic, just like their name, Kalnin’s Classica in grey with an added shine to them. Without further ado…I’ll give you the artsy background version (and green light) and then the version where you can see the true colors.
