The Blues

So I know I’ve mentioned it before in previous posts, and it has definitely been noticed by friends as well (i.e. Ryan Daragh of Men’s Second Style), that I have a terrible affection for the color blue. It’s true and often I can’t shake it. Let’s get into these two looks of mine that just sort of popped up out of nowhere:

Well Suited… Again (Sartoria Part II)

Well good evening everybody! Welcome back to my crazy world of Second Life fashion for part deux of my looks for Sartoria. How odd is it that it seems that all of my posts are showing up on Sundays… almost like I’m on a schedule. That’s it I need to make a post that comes out next Wednesday just to throw you all for a loop. To be honest, I’ve just had a few busy weeks with doing RL things and the weekends are really the only time I have time to post. Enough RL BS let’s get you my looks ASAP:

Sartoria Suits #1

Alright, so I may or may not have had these suits sitting in my inventory since oh… late January sounds right. Occasionally, as mentioned above, I get busy and posts get delayed, but my penchant for shopping really never ends. Above I have my two favorite suits from the Sartoria collection: The Martin suit (left) and The Velvet Suit (right).

Don’t Spill the Wine (Sartoria Part I)

Hello everybody and Happy Easter! (if it still is Easter where you are) So I lied on my last post that more suits were coming in this one. Although this is essentially Part I of II when it comes to newer items from Sartoria. I was going to put this look together and submit it to their contest, but alas I was lazy and actually have a commitment every Thursday evening when the contest requires you to be available. Drinking with friends (and playing kickball) is a commitment people! Just don’t spill the wine because where I come from that’s alcohol abuse. Here is the look I’ve put together for this post:

Dirty Hands - Full

Alright so the Dirty Hands collection is what I’m featuring today from Sartoria! It’s a little out-of-the-box for Sartoria as they’re mainly known for their most excellent formal wear or more “On the yacht” lifestyle. It was nice to see them come out with such a complete collection like this. As it was stated in a Second Style magazine a little while back, it’s harder to make the shredded/dirty clothing than it is to just make the regular clothing. It takes that extra effort to lay down the dirt, oil, stains, rips, and tears to make them look perfect with the clothing. Now, I would be remiss to say that it didn’t really remind me of the D&G Spring 2010 collection, and that does seem to follow suit with how Sartoria is an Italian brand (D&G is based out of Milan). Of the 3 colors of shirt that this came with, I felt like this old green really pulled me in the most. It just felt the easiest on the eyes and the colors flowed together so well. I really love the worn-in creases that you can see flowing down the jeans like you’ve put in a quality year’s worth of work in them.

Fashion Is Danger

You think you know fashion, but fashion’s a stranger. You think fashion’s your friend, my friend fashion is danger. Moscow, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo, Wellington, Rome, Geneva, New York City.

I couldn’t have started this out any better. I saw Flight of the Conchords last weekend and they were pretty amazing. I mean they even brought out the robot suits! Alright I’m going to hit you with the three shots and then I’ll hit you with my words on each.

Springy #3

Spring is in the air and FINALLY here for some us in the northern hemisphere. The bright colors can finally creep back out and I’ve been seeing them all over the place with the nice weather we’ve been having around these parts. I’m actually going to touch on something that I missed in all of my previous S/S09 male fashion posts. Besides all of the blue that flew at us in all of the shows, there was also a secondary dominant color in the shows that I overlooked and that was Coral/Melon. Above I’m displaying some of my looks that incorporate that sort of color.

Springy #1
This is actually an outfit I put together when I was going to double team a couture fashion article on Runway Mag with my boy Catero, but before we had the chance Runway blew up like the Lindenberg. To be completely honest, I don’t know an official name for this suit. This is actually a preview version of a Z Zegna influenced suit by Hoorenbeek that will be coming out in the near future. The shading is a little heavy, but overall this is a really great and fashionable suit. I actually went down to Fabulous Fashion taping in the Springy #2 outfit yesterday because Hoorenbeek was being featured on the show. The show for Hoorenbeek will be up very soon and I’ll update right -> here <- when the show is up if you’d like to check it out. The shirt underneath is actually one of the Cambridge shirts from Armidi’s Gisaci, but I threw my own flavor onto it. I had to do a bit of prim work to put this together, but I think it really ended up being very well worth it. To create the look of this shirt it required removing the long cylinderesque sculptie from each of the pieces that go on the upper arm. Then I took the small ends, attaching them to the forearms, and rotating + positioning them to look right. Note that this shirt is actually the Aufren White shirt with a coral-colored tint to it. The official tint I used to get this color is:

Red: 255
Green: 157
Blue: 122
~~~~~~~
Hue: 16
Sat: 100
Lum: 74
Finishing off this look are probably my current favorite pair of shoes in all of SL, the Classica’s from Kalnin’s. Please note that if you have not put on your Kalnin’s shoes in a while that you should put them on to get your automatic update to them. I don’t think they came with a notecard detailing what exactly was upgraded on the shoes, but after putting on both the Classica’s and the Gallop’s I was automatically sent newer versions of them.
Springy #2
My second look here comes from a lot of different places. The first and most vibrant thing that pops out at you is the jacket and vest. These come from the Shiki Gingham Check suit in Mandarin. Not exactly Coral/Melon, but very very close. Personally, I felt like the entire suit was a little busy and overbearing with the texture. Although, when you break it up like this I think it comes off looking a LOT better. The next thing that I should draw your attention is the hat from Apollon. Connecting this look to the first, I initially heard about these while Catero (srsly would you get out of my head Cat? kthx) was researching some Japanese fashion designers and he told me that I’d look good in one of the hats. When it happened I kind of laughed because I didn’t think they were really my style, but then when I got there and saw that the hats were only L$140 for two I figured I could buy a couple and see if I liked them. Well, obviously, I really did like them and found a couple of looks for this one to go with. Staying in Asia, I slid in the Isis shirt under the jacket layer from Zaara Kohime. Zaara has been dabbling in the male realm and I really like these Isis shirts. They come on a lot of different layers with the ability to tuck in and there’s a semi-sheer version of the shirt on the jacket layer.
Springy #3
My final look is the latest and greatest from those crazy ladies at Paper Couture. I haven’t had a chance to talk to her much since the early conceptual stages of what Paper Couture’s S/S09 collection was going to look like, but I was given the early hint from Ava Lu that it was going to be an Indian (Bombay not Native American) style to it. Of the three looks that they put out for men, I felt like this one really hit the spot. (other bloggers did as well as other blogs have been popping up with this look) This one also features some of the coral coloration on the breast and collar of the jacket. Note that all three looks for men pretty much come with a shirt and pant layer (two of them come with collars for shirts), so if you’re looking to mix and match fuhgettabotit. Finishing up this look I thought that the LeLutka Carson sandals would work very nicely. I got a taste of these from the freebies that LeLutka tossed out to their groupies, and knew they had the colors to fit this look. Again, I had to do a little prim work on these because I’m sorry, but the only reason that men have size 0 feet are to crunch them into shoes. When you open up the shoe, the feet look tiny and awkward. Thus, I moved my feet up to 25, as that’s what proportionally looks best with my shape, and had to do a little prim work to resize them for my feet and tighten up the straps. Thank you to LeLutka for making them only no transfer and allowing me customize them to my needs.
Alright, I’m going to hit you with the Rundown and Soundtrack and get myself out of here. If you have any male Coral/Melon leads please let me know in the comments. I’ve been searching high and low, so keep me in the loop. Enjoy your first and second lives to the fullest everybody.
Summertime Blues
It’s Sept 2nd and summer has left the building for those of us in the northern hemisphere. Now we look forward to fall. Even though the winter here in Wisconsin was as rough as it has ever been (record snowfalls all over the place), I’m actually kind of looking forward to a crisp fall evening. This summer will be missed though and as Eddie Cochran would tell you “there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues.” To honor this summer, I bring you a last grasp of summer blues.
I’ll work left to right here as my outfits flow that way. The first outfit I have kicking there is mostly from Casa del Shai. I picked up that the semi-sheer Mallory shirts were out via SL Style, and recently Shai herself tossed my way a pair of her scruffy jeans in Bruno to give her a little feedback. I strolled by her store to see if I could find something lighter and saw that she had a total of 6 pairs out. For this outfit I voted for Pedro (the name of the jeans), and I didn’t even have to do a flippin’ sweet dance to Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat”. Finishing off this first outfit is a shirt that I randomly came across. Though I’m not a huge fan of “shopping districts”, I love it when I’m in one specifically to check out a store that I pick up on from a blog…and happen to come upon another store that has some really cool stuff. That would be the case with this Vintage Mexican Skull tee from OutsiderZ. The overall feel and multiple locations of the store suggest an alternative lifestyle. I’m definitely feeling it and will keep watching for what Shian Handrick comes out with next.
The second outfit is a taste of Sartoria. I’m really a big fan of what Sartoria has cooking. Instead of the alternative feel, this is more of something that you would see on a yacht racing across the Mediterranean. Appropriately, the store is officially named La Sartoria di traveller Bade (that’s Italian people). Here you see the Racing Zip jacket paired up with the Riva dress slacks in Light Linen. Sartoria offers up the items separately, but, instead of the Riva dress slacks, you can get the Racing Zip along with a pair of Chino white pants as a set at Strider’s Mens Shop as SARTORIA ITALIANA Outfit 08 for L$250 (a savings of L$70 if you were to buy the items separately). Also in this outfit would be the Redgrave sneakers in white. These are a fantastically sculpted pair of sneakers by Emilia Redgrave. Thanks to the fantastic customer service provided by Emilia, I got these shoes in two sizes before she began offering them in the box in two sizes. I must not have been the only one asking. 😉
The third and final outfit of this group holds most of the elements I’ve already talked about, but thrown into the mix this time is a classic shirt from Laqroki. It’s offered in 10 different colors, but to go along with the group here it’s in a wonderful blue dubbed Chill. It comes with a prim collar bare, with white tie, and with a black tie. This shirt is truly a versatile piece of work where it works to dress it up with a tie or dress it down with a pair of jeans. You should also notice a hair change. A while back when Donovan Brennen of GearShift released some hoodies, and as a supplemental purchase you could buy a “half-hair” called Jute from Philotic Energy. Back then I sent a random IM to Aemilia Case, telling her she should create a full hair based on Jute. I was poking around in Philotic Energy the other day and asked if Aemilia’s hair Rhodri was the full hair of Jute. Well, it turns out that my eyes did not deceive me. This is an excellent hairstyle and the amount of colors that Aemilia offers is pretty amazing. I strongly suggested you get over to Philotic Energy and check out what Aemilia has up there in a new store setup in the sky as it’s no longer on the ground.
And now for something completely different…
I continue to be under the impression that June Dion has trained helper monkeys help her create as much as she does in SL. It’s really refreshing to know that every single time you walk into BareRose Tokyo that you’re going to find a deal on some high quality fantasy garb. This one is Aquarius from a series of astrological figures that she created. Aquarius is the water carrier and as shown this outfit is filled with sculpties to demonstrate a more futuristic way that Aquarius would transport that water. The attention to detail in this series of outfits is really amazing and at the price of L$160…it’s amazing.
That about sums it up for my Summertime Blues collection. Hopefully you can add some of these elements to accentuate the lighter side of your style and keep on stepping up that game (even if that game is amazing fantasy clothing). Also, here’s an update from Mina Firefly herself on the tribal facial tat. She’s looking to get her items setup on SLexchange very soon. When she does, I’ll update everything to send you directly to where you can buy her tats. Thanks for reading everybody.
Peace, love, and respect,
Oscar
