My Morning…er…Favorite Jackets

Helloooooooooooo everybody! I’m back! *toots horn like James Brown’s “Get Up Offa That Thang”* Alright, I took a lot of time here and put together a large collection of my favorite jackets. What really got the ball rolling on this were the Tracksuits from GearShift. Donovan Brennen (creator) unveiled them for the Harajukubox event that they had a little while back. Unfortunately one of the three that were out was exclusive to the event, so the Mech Love style that I have with a Mech pattern on them is no longer available. Anyhoo….that’s actually what got me started on jackets. The way I’m going to slide you shoulders and zip you up into these jackets would be in this order: Blues, Black & Red, Dressy, and Leather. Some of the items will overlap categories, but generally I think I got them in the right spots.

Let’s start this off with the Blues. The main shot (closeup) is a jacket I picked up a little while ago when I first got tped into Novocaine on one of Pheobe’s shopping trips. The official name of it would be the Dusk Rider. I really love the color splashes across this jacket because theyI coupled it up with GearShift Maverick jeans in ripped faded blue. I really like all of the new jeans that GearShift has out because they go with just about everything. Down to my feet, we’ve got the essential FNKY! Racers in Blue. I was really really enamored with these when they first came out and they reminded me a lot of one of my favorite shorts from The Animatrix (pic & link to short on YouTube). Finishing off this outfit we have my classic Alaskan Aviators from The Young Urban and on top is the hairstyle Dan from UncleWeb Studios in cool black. Let me tell you something about what UncleWeb does with their hair that I really like is that they mold the hair to different head styles. Style A is for a thinner head and then Style B is for a wider/more round head. I love this option because often I’ll buy a hair that was created for a thinner head style (as my head is more round) and you almost need to adjust a multitude of prims to get it right. If you’re just trying to enlarge the hairstyle using your basic stretch tools, you’ll end up with (not a forehead or a fivehead, but…) a sixhead.

Moving down the line we’ve got the jacket portion of the aforementioned GearShift Tracksuit. This would be the jacket from the M.I.A. Track Jacket, which will definitely let you fly like paper and get high like planes. It may also aide in you becoming a bonafide huslta makin’ your name. This jacket comes with matching pants as well that are a basic black with the same double blue stripes up the seams. Last, but certainly not least, is the Armidi Moto Leather Jacket in Jumper. I was one of the lemmings that got the group notice and rushed over to check them out. The colors on this one are pretty excellent, as is almost everything that Hudsen Armidi (Emma Gilmour) puts out. Some of the other colors you may remember from such pop references as Michael Jackson’s red jacket and Uma Thurman’s iconic yellow Kill Bill outfit. A final note on this collection would be that before my hard drive crash and all of my images from the S/S09 collections were wiped, the dominant color throughout a lot of the collections was a blue like the one displayed in the Novocaine jacket and FNKY! Racers.

Gliding right along here we get to some more of the fall colors and my favorite black & red jackets. First, please note that an extra one to this can be noted in my last fashion post with the latest Laqroki jacket that I love. The jackets that I tossed into this one would be from Civvies, Moderno, Sinistyle, and Armidi Limited.

Black & Red Jacket Collage

The full picture on the left is the Charlatan coat in black from Civvies. I really like this jacket. It just feels fuzzy and warm, but with badass written all over it. The cut and style of it reminds me of coats that the Russians wore in WWII (if they buttoned up the middle and had forearm straps/belts). The first iteration of this came in the form of a coat named Road Agent and Posy had branched it off into a few different styles in its evolution. Going down the middle we have the Moderno Block Track jacket in red. Despite the tragic event that occurred with Ginny Talamasca, Starley Thereian still has the selection of clothing that she made for Moderno out in the Lithium City sim. What I love the most about this jacket is that it really hones in the 80s sports effect. Again reminiscing, but it reminds me of something that Kevin Kline would’ve worn in The Big Chill. Yes, I was only 1 when that movie came out, but that doesn’t refute the fact that it’s a classic movie with an amazing soundtrack. Moving right along, footloose and fancy free. The bottom jacket is Sinistyle and at the time it was a capitalization on the hit TV show Heroes. Although originally made because Sylar was the villain in Seasons 1 & 2, Sylar is now maybe a good guy? A few too many plot twists in this latest season (#3) to know exactly where Sylar lies. He’s in a sea of gray with a lot of other characters. Ok, I’m a Heroes freak! I’m sorry! Let me get at why I like this coat 1) I love the cut of it and how the flexi moves when you walk. 2) The shine texture on the shirt underneath. Though simply designed after the character, the shine fabric brings this older coat very fashion forward. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of items that are overly shiny, but you gotta hit ’em with a little shine. Finally, in this we’ve got Armidi Limited’s Military Refuge jacket in red. This, like a coat coming up later, is a very very classic coat and the military theme that strutted its way down the runways earlier this year for the F/W ’08 collections. As with most everything @ Armidi Limited, this coat comes in a plethora of colors (10 total if memory serves me correctly and mostly darker tones) to fit anything you want to wear.

The next set of jackets I’m going to toss you way would be my dressier coats. Although, that’s not saying that you cannot wear them with jeans because they actually do work very well with them and that is demonstrated in my collage here:

Dressy Collage

Left to right here we have the MUWU English Boy blazer and shirt combo, Savvy Avvy black woolen coat, and Back & Forth’s pea coat in black. The MUWU English Boy I came across in another blog back in April. To be honest, I never really wore it all that much because I couldn’t get a color scheme that blended well enough back then. While throwing this idea around in my head and cruising through my inventory, I came across it again, and somehow it just clicked as to what I should toss on with it. In this shot we have Elephant Outfitters – Classic Elephant Jeans in a Dirty Dark wash, Hoorenbeek’s Patagonia Boots in Used Black, and Aitui’s Double Wrap Muffler Scarf in Storm. Down the line we have the Savvy Avvy black woolen coat. It’s an older coat, but still an excellent coat. I really like how the black and cream colors are coordinated here. The scarf and gloves both come with the coat as well as the multitude of attachments. It has a very Londoner feel to it. I could see Prince William strutting around town in this jacket on a snowy, English day. Lastly, we have an even older coat from Back & Forth. This has to be one of my favorite sets of pea coats because A) They’re in expensive, B) They remind me of a pea coat that I actually own, and C) They go with a lot of different things. Though they’re now outdated in terms of true quality, I still love these pea coats like no tomorrow. Also, added in here is the Gritty Kitty stripes & plaids scarf. This scarf is touch scripted to change into 9 different textures and I own just about all of the scarves from Gritty Kitty as I love them so much.

The last group of jackets can be found on the beaches of Florida, if we were talking about human leathery skin in this case. 🙂 This is a collection of some of my favorite leather coats, but these are your more traditional leather coats (unlike the leather moto jacket from Armidi that was mentioned before.

Again working left to right we have the Amodica ~ Rider in Copper. This coat comes in a multitude of colors. Randomly at a fashion show (I can’t remember which) I saw someone rocking this in white and it looked just as great as this one in copper. I really love the rich color in this coat. It gives it that extra tint of authenticity, if you will. The next coat in line is about the most badass coat in the entire group. This is an older coat that’s now only available via SL Exchange from Brutal Gear. The leather on this coat almost exudes the stories of the road that it was worn on. To cap it off it has spiked shoulder prims and a thick, loose belt strap. If you need a coat that says “Don’t even think about messing with me in a bar fight” this is it. The next up is actually a full outfit from TheZoo called Aviator with a single item switched out (Shai’s Men’s Ribbed tank in cream instead of the shirt). This is one of the first coats that I liked that connected at mid-torso and actually 1 of the first stores I’ve ever encountered where I don’t have to adjust any of the parts because they fit my larger av perfectly 99% of the time. I really wish that Froddo Beck would keep creating as he hasn’t put out anything in a long time. I think there’s a lot more depth of to his line that he hasn’t tapped into, and I hate to see a designer fall short of the potential that I see in his current clothing. This is a classic cool outfit in my inventory that I could wear to just about anywhere. The flexi is very well done. Saving one of the best for last, I first became obsessed with this coat when, again, I was perusing the crowd at a fashion show and saw it on Daydream Langway. I went to EtchD not even searching for this Drifter Gunslinger coat in brown because at that time I was looking for new tats and I had given up on my search. EtchD is mainly known for the tats, but this coat is amazing. You get a wonderful leather coat with a tattoo-inspired design on it. I truly love the brilliance of that as a male consumer. It’s along the same lines as an Ed Hardy, but much less colorful and gives a strong male feel to it. I love the Wild West feel to it as well like an updated version of the outlaw’s jacket. For a closer look at the design on this as well as the back of the jacket from TheZoo, check them out here.

That’s all I have for this time through of my favorite jackets. I’m sure down the road, I’ll make updates or probably forgot one that got lost in my immense inventory, but for now this is a solid representation of all of my favorite coats in all of SL. I’d strongly suggest dropping by the slurls below and grabbing all of these jackets as the weather begins to fade toward the middle of fall with winter just turning onto the block. I just hope our winter doesn’t extend into March as shown in my Snowmageddon pix on my Flickr (add me as a contact if you want to see them). Anyway enough of my rambling, here are the full credits for all of the pictures above. Thanks so much for reading and I’ll try my best to not hold out this long for future posts.
